Pflugerville Independent School District, founded in 1902, is a fast-growth district located in Northeast Travis County. Built to provide the citizens of Pflugerville with drinking water, this 180-acre reservoir has become the city's most popular family playground. Located at the intersection of Weiss Lane and Pflugerville Parkway, the lake is open for fishing, swimming, jogging, canoes, kayaks and wind surfing. The City of Pflugerville has more than 530 acres of parks and approximately 27 miles of trails over nine pathways. Amenities include the City's Hike and BikeTrail, Gilleland Creek, with picnic tables and BBQ grills, a Jr. Olympic size swimming pool, a basketball court, sand volleyball court, covered gazebo and a playscape. The City also operates three community pools, Gilleland Creek Pool, Scott B. Mentzer Pool and Windermere Pool.
